Policy of Financial Assistance for Winners of GSBYRA Campionships

Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association promotes participation in its GSBYRA Championships. The entry fees from the GSBYRA Championships are segregated into a separate account to provide financial assistance according to the following policy. GSBYRA commits to pay the
          • Entry fee,
          • Damage deposit,
          • Boat charter fee if applicable,
          • Borrowed boat insurance, and
          • Incidental fees charged by the event,
for the winner of each of the following GSBYRA Championships:
          • Midget Single-handed (Orr),
          • Midget Double-handed (Picken),
to advance to the corresponding Middle Atlantic Midget Championships;
and for the winner of the following GSBYRA Championships:
          • Junior Single-handed (Shinnecock),
          • Junior Double-handed (Patin),
          • Junior Triple-handed (Gulden),
          • Single-handed (Westin),
          • Adult Triple-handed - Men's (Fenner) or Women’s (Morgan),
          • Match Racing Triple-handed (Furman)
to advance to the corresponding Area B Championships.

US Sailing mandates all Area Championships be open. GSBYRA sailors who bypass GSBYRA Championships will not be eligible for financial assistance from GSBYRA and compete at their own expense in Area B Championships and US SAILING National Championships.
          • If the GSBYRA individual or team with the highest place finish chooses not to advance, then GSBYRA will offer to provide financial assistance to the 2nd place individual or team, and so on.
          • When an Area B Championship is scheduled before the GSBYRA Championship is held, GSBYRA will provide retroactive financial assistance to the GSBYRA individual or team with the highest place finish at the Area B Championship to advance to the US Sailing Championship.
          • For any individual or team US Sailing championships that require a resume for entrance, GSBYRA will select the individual or team to advance from among the GSBYRA Full Member Clubs.

For a GSBYRA sailor who competed in the GSBYRA Championships and sunsequently wins an Area B Championship (if an Area B is held) to advance to the corresponding US Sailing National Championship:
          • Junior Single-handed Smythe,
          • Junior Double-handed Bemis,
          • Junior Triple-handed/Quadruplehanded Sears,
          • Single-handed O’Day,
          • US Adult Mallory,
          • Match Racing Prince of Wales.
GSBYRA commits to pay:
          • Entry fee,
          • Damage deposit,
          • Boat charter fee if applicable,
          • Borrowed boat insurance,
          • Incidental fees charged by the event, and
          • Coach Airfare.


GSBYRA commits to provide trophies on a rotating basis with the other invited organizations for the Midget Challenge, the Junior Challenge, and the Middle Atlantic Midget Championships.
