Championships 2023

 

Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association encourages members of GSBYRA Full Member Clubs to enter GSBYRA Championships for youngsters and adults. Register online from Schedule page link to Regatta Network for GSBYRA Championships. Eligibility and conditions differ for every Championship and are linked to each championship listed to the left. NORs for every GSBYRA Championship are linked on the Regatta Network event website for registration. Contact the GSBYRA Championship Coordinator with your questions.

All GSBYRA Championships are open to an unlimited number of entries from each club. Some clubs hold eliminations to select competitors to represent their club. Contact your club regatta committee chairperson to inquire whether your club holds eliminations and reimburses its winner for the entry fee to GSBYRA.

For Area B Championships and US Sailing National Championships all competitors are required to be family or individual members of US Sailing. GSBYRA provides Financial assistance for the advancement of GSBYRA individuals or teams according to its Financial Assistance Policy. Confirm with the GSBYRA Championship Coordinator and register online. Some US Sailing national championships advance the winners of Area B championships, while other national championships are only by resume invitation.

For 2023 US Sailing has eliminated the Chubb Junior Doublehanded and Singlehanded Championships and updated the Youth Doublehanded and Singlehanded Championships as open events, sailed in International 420, 29er, ICLA 6 and ICLA 7. The rededicated Bemis Trophy is now awarded to the new top team sailing the first time in the largest doublehanded fleet at the US Youth Sailing Championships. The rededicated Smythe Trophy is now awarded to the top new singlehanded sailor sailing for the first time in the largest singlehanded fleet at the US Youth Sailing Championships.

GSBYRA encourages Full Member Clubs to volunteer as a host venue for a GSBYRA Championship or an Area B Championship. Club Delegates to GSBYRA shall convey requests to hold a championship for the following year at fall scheduling meetings. Host club Race Committee Chairpersons should read Host and Venue Management for GSBYRA and be familiar with registration and scoring using Regatta Network.

GSBYRA is a Regional Sailing Association of US Sailing Area B. Area B includes Central New York YRA, Eastern Connecticut SA, GSBYRA, Hudson River YRA, YRA of Long Island Sound, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Area B is one of eleven geographical areas of US Sailing.
