Sailing Grants 2023

GSBYRA Sailing Grants recognize the sailing effort of applicants, who exemplify the principles of GSBYRA and foster sailboat racing through service, participation and involvement in various GSBYRA activities, committees and regattas. Applicants for the monetary grant must be members of GSBYRA Full Member Clubs, and be high school graduates or undergraduate students pursuing post secondary education at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or vocational school. Amounts awarded vary and an applicant may be the recipient of a grant two times.

All youngsters should keep track of their GSBYRA sailing involvement and race participation each year as a skipper or crew on the second page of the application form. When applying for a grant, download the fill-able Application Form and email to the address shown on the form. Additionally email a photograph, two signed letters of recommendation, and a written treatise along with the application.

A Sailing Grant Committee comprised of the President, the 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, and three additional members appointed by the President review and rank the applications. Grants are awarded in November.

Donations to support sailing grants are invested along with half of the advertising revenue from the GSBYRA yearbook into a GSBYRA Fund that was established by former President Glenn Schmidt. To date, GSBYRA has awarded $61,025 to 98 different grant recipients. Mail donations to the Treasurer of GSBYRA.
